Beautiful Beni M'Guild

Black Sheep White Sheep

Beautiful, stunning, and very large Moroccan Berber pile rug from the Beni M'Guild tribal region in the Middle Atlas.  Old pieces like this, of this age, are increasingly rare to come by and very hard to find.

The complex patterns in this rug include star formations, crosses, lozenges, chevrons, with inlaid complex geometrical designs. The soft, woollen pile of the rug consists of colours with various hues of predominantly byzantium, Tyrian purple and plum, plus highlights of pumpkin orange, amethyst, cerise, crimson, grey and cream.  The foundation (the base weave) of the rug is made from natural, undyed fallow brown and licorice black wool.

This genuine, hand-woven and hand-knotted 100% woollen rug is expertly made with a tight Berber knot structure, proving its origin in the Middle Atlas region of Morocco; the only place on the globe where this type of knot is employed.

This rug is in excellent condition for its age (60 years old), with no signs of damage.

The date of manufacture is woven into the rug in both Common Era date (1956) and Islamic Era date (1375).

Materials: 100% woollen foundation and pile.

Size: 452 x 185 cm.
