Beni M'Guild (Khenifra)

Black Sheep White Sheep

This is our second stunningly beautiful, and very large Moroccan Berber pile rug from the Beni M'Guild tribal region in the Middle Atlas.  Very old pieces like this, of this age, are increasingly rare to come by and very hard to find.

The symmetrical diamond design of this rug is constructed with a fine zigzag pattern, inlaid with star formations, crosses and lozenges. The soft, woollen pile of the rug consists of colours with various hues of predominantly byzantium, crimson, tomato and licorice, plus highlights of light grey and cream.  The foundation (the base weave) of the rug is made from faded byzantium and grey dyed wool.

This genuine, hand-woven and hand-knotted 100% woollen rug is expertly made with a tight Berber knot structure, proving its origin in the Middle Atlas region of Morocco; the only place on the globe where this type of knot is employed.

This rug is in excellent condition for its age (70 years old), with no signs of damage.

Materials: 100% woollen foundation and pile.

Circa 1940's.

Size: 378 x 190 cm.
