Burgundy Boujad

Black Sheep White Sheep

Beautiful, old, medium-sized Berber Moroccan pile rug with complex traditional tribal designs and motifs.

This hand-woven and hand-knotted rug made with a 100% woollen pile shows a typical variation (abrash) in the rich burgundy and carmine background colour (the 'ground') due to changes in the batches of dyed wool used during the weaving process.  This is purely natural and expected in a genuine rug of this age, and only serves to enhance the hand-made origin of the piece.

The complex patterns in this rug include floral motifs, lozenges, chevrons, and intricate geometrical designs in various hues of white, carnation pink, flame orange, light eggshell blue, lavender blue and licorice black.  The foundation (the base weave) of the rug is made from a red woollen warp and a light grey and licorice black woollen weft.
