Beni Ouarain (Azrou Small)

Black Sheep White Sheep

This is the first of our delightful trio of luxuriously soft genuine hand-made Beni Ouarain rugs, sourced in the Ifrane Province, south of Fes, in the Fes-Meknes region of Morocco.

This rug is the smallest sized one of the three, and features a luscious deep pile made of the highest quality soft wool, with a symmetrical tram-line diamond pattern and inlaid border, as well as the selvedges, in various shades of charcoal with a delicate hint of of byzantium and teal blue on a ghost white ground.

The pile, as is often found in the older, high quality pieces from the Middle Atlas Mountains, is constructed using the intricate Berber knot, which is only found in this mountainous region of Morocco.

A further unique and delightful feature of this rug are the intricate crochet styled tassels at each end of the rug, which is not commonly seen on such pieces.

Origin: Middle Atlas Mountains, Morocco.

Material: 100% woollen pile and foundation.

Circa 1980's.

Size: 240 x 150 cm.
